A Design Concept is a collection of  visual ideas inspired by examining your Design Brief. Its’ a series of tangents – lots of ideas at first which you then apply SCAMPER to.. Eliminate some.. Add some more…Subtract others until you have a single concept  or two you feel BEST fits your ideation.

In your Design Concepts -You  take the first elements of Design Process;

The Mind-map or BrainDump

A technique used to graphically represent connections amongst key concepts using lines, links & graphics.Each idea is connected to another idea or fact creating a web of relationships.

Techniques within a Mind-map include free writing, word association, spider webs and images.

Level 1: Primary Ideas:Examine your Product- What comes to mind- Don’t think on it too much -Note it down- strange ideas are GOOD.

Level 2: Divergent Thinking:Now guide your ideas- link to Design Elements & Principles such as Colour,Shape,Type.  Vary these, Combine them.This creates new ideas.

Level 3: Creative Ideation- Using these connected ideas- form clear solutions to your task brief. The purpose is to gain more inspiring and original new ideas.

You should have Empathised with your potential  Audience

Ideation and Prototyping will come when you bring in awareness of;

Client, Audience, Product:  use of Aesthetics and its  marketing history, Current Trends in Design/Production and Production Requirements

Techniques you should use  include: Montage, Mind Map, Collage and plenty of Annotations 🙂
